気仙沼・鹿折地区 --Tohoku Disaster Report Vol.5--

気仙沼大島へと向うフェリー。
空を見上げれば、長閑な夏の風景が広がっています。

上の写真からすぐそば、
ボランティアの作業で何度も訪れた、気仙沼・鹿折地区。
埋立地のため高度や遮蔽物に乏しかったここ一帯は、
3月11日の津波で壊滅的な打撃を受けました。

Look up into the sky, there are a good scenery of summer.
Near the place of that photo,
there are Kesen'numa Shishi-ori district (気仙沼 鹿折）
where I had visited many times for volunteer work.
This area was almost annihilated by Tsunami on March 11,
because that area was reclaimed low-land.

港から15分程、車の立てる砂埃の中、
歩いて一人足を踏み入れると、こういった光景が目に飛び込んできます。

Only 15 minutes on foot from the port.
You will be in terrible landscape like this picture.

地盤沈下も、かなり酷い。多くの道が水没しています。
これはどうすれば復旧できるのでしょうか…。

The land-subsidence is also cruel.
Many roads have sunk under the sea-water.
How can we restore this?

この写真は少し離れた場所で撮影したものですが、
同じように焼け焦げた船をあちこちで目にしました。

In Kesen'numa, there are many ships burned out.


日本屈指の漁業基地である気仙沼は、多くの漁船が出入りします。
埠頭には、漁船の燃料を備蓄する巨大なタンクがありました。
そのタンクが津波で倒壊し、内湾に流され、気仙沼を覆う大火となったそうです。

Kesen'numa is one of the biggest fishing base.
On the wharf,there were many big tanks of the fuel for the fishing-ships.
Those tanks had collapsed by huge tsunami, and were thrown into the harbor.
And made the huge fire that burned Shishi-ori district out.

巨大な漁船が、あちこちに打ち上げられています。
Big fishing ships had been pushed up to the land by Tsunami here and there.

錆び色に染まるガレキが、火の凄まじさを物語っています。
The rust color tells how terrific of the fire was.

強烈な津波と火。
当日気仙沼市街にいた村上さんのお話ではまず、
津波が家々を薙ぎ倒すことで発生する黄色い噴煙が見え、
やがて白い煙があちこちに昇り始め、日没後は横一線に繋がった業火が、
停電で灯りのない暗闇を、延々と照らし続けたそうです。

Mr. Murakami was in the Kesen’numa city when earthquake occurred.
He said…
First, I found yellow smokes went up.
That smoke was from houses that crashed down by tsunami.
Next, white smokes begun to rise here and there.
And then, the smokes were connected and made one-line big fire.
After the night came, the one-lined huge fire had kept shining on the dark sky
of Kesen’numa city without lights because of power failure.

8月現在の写真。
震災後5ヶ月が経過していますが、依然として
復旧には膨大な力が必要なようです。

Photo as of August.
Five months passed after the earthquake and tsunami.
It seems there still needs huge power and help for restoration.




The area nearby ocean had been most destroyed. Nikon D300 + AT-X 165 PRO DX

ニュースで撤去されたガレキは30％とか、40％という報告を耳にしますが、
それはあくまで平均値です。ほとんど手がつけられていない場所も無数にあるのだと
現地を歩いていて、強く感じました。

The news says 30~40% rubbles had been cleaned up.
But I felt there are many places almost 0%.

こういった場所では、高波が邪魔をして、
思うように撤去が進まないのかもしれません。

The removal of rubbles might not advance in such a place because high-sea obstructs it.


それでも、川沿いなど、随分と撤去が進んだ場所も見受けられました。
重機の数も増えたように見受けられます。
まずは「ゼロに戻す」作業を。復興を目指す活動が、継続して行われています。

But, I felt removing of rubbles was very advanced in some places.Like banks of river.
And it seems that number of equipments for restoration(like a scraper) increased, too.
Many people are doing revival activity continuously.

港では、出船を待つ漁船の姿が。
近くには、水揚げされた魚を販売する店もありました。
この街も、少しずつ、前進している。
ここ気仙沼、そして東北の皆さんは今も闘っています。

At the port of Kesen'numa,
You can see many fishing-ships that waiting for going out for their work.
There are a shop that sells the landed fish near there.
This city is going ahead little by little.
Not only Kesen'numa,
Tohoku are fighting for restoration now.



魚を買うこと、現地へ赴くこと、
彼の地を忘れないでいること。
僕という人間一人に出来ることは些細なことかもしれません。
でも、塵も積もれば山となる。
これからも、できることを探して、息切れしないように
長く関わっていければと思います。

"What can I do for there?"
Buying fishes, visiting there, and remember there.
All one person can do is very small.
But we need to keep do it, I think.
