大島の地盤沈下。 --Tohoku Disaster Report Vol.4--

大島の玄関口、浦の浜港。
地震による地盤沈下のため、コンクリートの桟橋が海の下に沈んでいます。
左に見える船は、その水没した桟橋に係留されているんですね。

Uranohama-port, the biggest port of Kesen’numa-Oshima.
You can see the pier at the center of this photograph.
Concrete pier has sunk under the sea,
because of land subsidence by earthquake.


気仙沼の港湾部もそうですが、大島に到着して驚かされたのは
地震による地盤沈下の凄まじさです。

I was very surprised at this terrific land-subsidence when I visited Oshima first.
This is same as city of Kesen'numa.

高潮で、車が通れないほどです。

Here is ferry port of flood tide.
Cars cannot pass here because of high tide.

4月初旬。このときは港付近もこのような状態だったようです。
米軍による復旧作業で、船と道路の通路が、
まず整備されたのではないでしょうか。

This photo was taken in the beginning of April. Near the port.
First of all, the way of the ship and the road had been recovered
by the U.S. military, I guess.

時間は少し遡って震災からおよそ2週間後、港の付近です。
左の港湾内には、流されてきた家屋の屋根が浮かんでいます。
右はほぼ壊滅した商店街。
真ん中に写っている道路まで、満潮時は海が上がってきます。

The left of this photo broken roof of house is floating in harbor.
The right side is a shopping street almost annihilated.
At the flood-tide time,
the sea sink the road of center in this photo.

8月現在の付近の様子です。
盛り土と土嚢袋で、波を防いでいます。

Now's situation, in August.
Preventing from the high-wave with banking with soils and sand-bags.

この道も、満潮になれば海水に浸り、車での通行が困難になります。
島の人の話では「1ｍ以上は下がっている」とのこと。

This road is soaked in seawater at high tide.
And traffic with the car becomes difficult.
"Our land fell more than 1 meter." The person of the island said.

別の場所の沿海部。
建物があったであろう敷地内まで、海水が浸食してきています。
「せっかく片付けてもらってありがたいけど、もう同じ場所に家は建てられない」
ボランティア活動をしている時は、そのようなお話も耳にしました。

Another place faces the sea.
Also in the place where the houses existed ,
seawater has eroded.
"We will not be able to build our house in the same place any longer."
When I was doing volunteer work, some island's people said so.


港のように巨大なコンクリートの建造物が1メートル以上も沈下してしまった。
また、沿海部の家々に住む人々は、家の再建もままならず、
同じ場所での生活再建も難しい。
こういった状況から復興を果たす為には、技術と資本の必要性を感じます。
行政なのか、企業なのか。
さらにどういう補強をすれば、人々が安心して生活できるようになるのか、
専門家の分析も必要でしょう。
※ ニュースでは、地盤沈下は76㎝とのこと。

A huge building,port made of concrete has subsided more than 1 meter.
I cannot imagine the way of how to restore from this situation.
Moreover, it's so difficult rebuilding people's lives in the coast part.
We needs specialist’s help.

To accomplish the revival from such a situation,
it needs spacial technological and capital-money help, I think.
by the government and enterprises.

もちろんボランティアに関しても、あり方が変わってきているとはいえ
ニーズは、まだまだあります。
「自分たちが力になれることは何か」
各々が、常に真摯にそう考えることを念頭におけば、
きっといい成果に繋がっていくのではないでしょうか。

There are still big needs for volunteer even though the style has changed.
"What can we do for there?"
If everybody keep in mind that always,
it will be able to make a good result. I believe that.

小田の浜。とても綺麗な砂浜です。
この浜で、海水浴が出来る日が一日も早く訪れますように。

長い道のりになるかもしれませんが、
ずっと見守っていきたいと思っています。

This beach were cleaned up by volunteer staff.
Koda-no-Hama. Very beautiful beach.
I hope that the day comes as soon as possible
when people are able to bathe in the sea there.





■■ 気仙沼大島 ■■
宮城県北東部、気仙沼湾内に位置する離島。
面積は9.05平方kmと東北では最大級の有人島。
その美しい海と木々が織り成す景色は、
「緑の真珠」と呼ばれる。

-- Kesennuma-Oshima --
Located in Kesennuma-Bay northeastern Miyagui prefecture.
One of the biggest manned islands in Tohoku, 9.05 square km.
The scenery that the beautiful sea and trees is called “green pearl”.
